The Sin of Partiality (James 2:1-13)

Series: The Book of James

So far in the book of James, we’ve seen some challenging admonitions to be spiritually mature.

We’ve seen that we ought to persevere when the times get tough and use those opportunities to develop patience and maturity.

We’ve also seen that we ought to be ones that listen, particularly to God’s word, and act after listening carefully and be doers of the word.

As we get to James 2, James now warns us that we ought to not show partiality: “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.” (2:1)

There are some sins that we talk about a good bit, however I dare say that partiality could perhaps be one thing that we don’t guard against enough.
While things like violence, sexual immorality, and stealing are all recognized as obvious issues, showing partiality isn’t something we give consideration to as often.

The thing is that this issue is something that might do blatantly, but it could also be something that we do subconsciously as well.
