A Lesson About Mothers

Mother’s Day is a day that we’ve celebrated in America for over 100 years.
According to Wikipedia it was first celebrated locally in 1908 in the state of West Virginia. By 1911, it was observed by all of the United States. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson proclaimed that Mother’s Day would be held as a national holiday on the second Sunday in May to honor mothers.

Now, many countries have either adopted this holiday or celebrate something similar on other dates throughout the year. We have many holidays that we celebrate during the year that carry different degrees of significance. However, Mother’s Day is a special day and worthy of our attention.

For Christians, to remember the role of a mother and to honor our mother is very much a Biblical concept. As Christians who serve an all knowing and wise God, we should remember that it was God who designed the home. When God created woman and gave instructions regarding the role of mothers, He knew what He was doing. Mothers play a very special role in His plan for the home. Mothers are certainly worthy of honor.  And while this is true throughout the year, dedicating a day to especially remember this is certainly appropriate.
